Traditional Jack O Lantern
The story of Jack O'lantern
There once was an Irish blacksmith named Jack, and he thought he could trick the Devil. Jack made a deal with the Devil: that his soul could not be taken down into the depths of hell. The drunkard, who was talented at gambling, won the bet. Yet, when Jack died several years later, Heaven would not let him in. The angels chased him out of the gates and scolded him for his drunken gambling and lewd ways. He turned to Hell and the Devil merely laughed at him. Jack’s soul wasn’t allowed in Hell either, but the Devil threw him a piece of burning coal. So Jack carved out a turnip to place that coal inside. He lit the way with his turnip Jack O’Lantern as he wandered across the hills of Ireland for the rest of eternity.
